Yoga festivals with a disability
If you notice I am trying to reclaim the word DISABILITY and rephrase it as something to be proud of and celebrate, not deny or hide.
As a stroke survivor, navigating outdoor yoga festivals can be somewhat challenging, but nonetheless a very rewarding experience. A few tips I can offer as I completed my third 3 day camping yoga festival. A few things you must invest in to make your experience enjoyable, if you are mobile and able to walk.
a good sun hat
a good walking stick
waterproof boots
thermal socks
a cheap yoga mat
earplugs and magnifying glass
More stroke survivors need to get out of braces and mechanical devices and plant their feet in the earth.
Over the course of 3 days- I experienced a life changing sound bath, check out a YouTube link for an awesome outdoor sound bath experience below.
A Sing-along musical kirtan with ancient Hebrew and Sanskrit mantra.
A yoga class using walking sticks
A Yogaville Integral gentle relaxing yoga class with yoga Nidra.
Excellent local food truck fresh foods and juices.
local musical artists and Drumming circles with optional bongo lessons.
Time to wander in the forest, dip my feet in the river.
Sleep under the stars and wake to the sunrise and birds chirping.
The experiences should be available to all those looking to deepen their yoga practice and develop a yoga community. Even if you have a disability!!
Whenever I go to such festivals I meet the most amazing like minded folks, I never feel judged or different, rather accepted and loved just as I am.
