Intuitive Living

Let’s talk Ayurveda: the science of life.

You really cant talk about yoga without referencing Ayurveda.

Some say ayurveda and yoga are sisters.

Some say Ayurveda is the science that supports yoga.

The Sanskrit word Avurevda translates to

“Science of life”

Ayu- meaning life or day to day

Veda-meaning knowing

It is also a traditional system of Hindu medicine, based on the idea of balance in the bodily systems, primarliy using diet, herbal treatment and yogic breathing

Currently Ayurveda is a primary method of healthcare in India

It is not as popular as the modern medicine approach however as it does not produce a super quick response

Ayurveda is a mechanism for healing that is slow, it is intuitive, it focuses primarily on the 5 elements

  • Air

  • Water

  • Space/ether

  • Earth

  • Fire

I like to think of Ayurveda as intuitive living.

Intuitive meaning what one feels to be true within their own heart, without conscious reasoning

Broken down more specifically for each person based on energies within their individual body and 3 components of health according to this ancient system of medicine:

Diet

Sleep

Abstinence

When it comes to eating, from the ayurvedic perspective, each meal is an opportunity to heal or hurt the physical body.

Each meal a sensory experience.

Each meal a nurturing, nourishing, enjoyable event.

An event that satisfy’s all 5 senses:

Smell

Taste

Sight

Hearing

Touch

Including the range of flavors:

 sweet

salty

sour

bitter

pungent

astringent

Try ditching the utensils and eating with your hands, pause and take 3 deep breaths seated or standing upright before each meal, bless your food before it enters your body

Take 3 deep breaths at the end of a meal

Eat with the intention to nourish and heal

Prepare each meal fresh and eat within 2 hours

The frequency of the food we eat matters maybe more than the actual content of the food
